  • I have posted my 5th podcast.  This one includes technical info of potential interest (outlined below), a song by Bad Manners (80’s ska band), my first TRTO interview (of my kids), and potential example of a theme that might not be a good idea for a podcast.

Here is the link for the MP3 download: TRTO_005_10-21-2004.mp3 (11466.2K)

As always the ipodder savvy link is: http://sholden.typepad.com/weblog/audio.xml.

  • Dann Sheridan and I did our first joint podcast. It is called TechFire and it is planned to be a weekly dialog on current computer network security issues and topics.

We are still experimenting with the capturing of audio part but that will get better with time and experience.

  • Back in June 2004, I replaced my Canon S10 with a Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 [REVIEW] which seemed to be the “winner” at the time for my requirements: size, weight, formfactor, movie capture, snapping picture speed, etc. As someone who hasn’t been a big fan of Sony products, this camera has really been a very pleasant surprise.

But convincing my wife Christy to go digital has been a non-starter since I brought home my first Apple QuickTake camera. However, that has all recently changed since my 1 year old daughter Carson opened up Christy’s $1K+ SLR, and made some moving parts out of non-moving parts.

So, Christy is off at a play group last week, and mentioned her sad destroyed camera story, and a friend, who is also an amatuer photographer, lent Christy her a Canon S60 that this friend had determeined who was the best “consumer” sized digital camera an SLR person would be happy with.

This is nothing new to what I had been saying for over the last year, but since “source” was not her geek husband, Christy actually really used the S60 over the course of a weekend, and compared it with my DSC-W1.

And then we made a spreadshet of all her requirements, and then matched current available models from Canon, Sony, Olympus, & Ricoh [short list suggested by Leo Laporate]; and decided on the Canon S70 [REVIEW] as the best fit.

The camera came on Monday, and so far we are doing pretty good with the new camera.

  • Busy with work, busy at home, consummed with podcasting = 3600+ RSS feeds clogging up my Outlook.

They are all in the trash and should get purged over the next couple of days.

It feels good. 🙂 I use to wonder what it is that I missed but that would be missing the point I think.

BTW … these were my news and gadget feeds that I deleted … I am still managing to keep up with the human/personal webloggers …

  • The new update mentioned a couple of days ago in a post, does not fix what I think is a big feature missing in this otherwise very useful tool – editing in outline view.

There are new tools for exporting MindMaps to outline views in both HTML and Word though, and the ability to import tab’d text files but no apparent way to import OMPL files.

    Maybe the next big release.

  • Dann Sheridan and I are mucking around in all our free time trying to get a “conversation” going for a podcast on computer network security. So far we are close to getting the technical kinks worked out but it hasn’t been easy.

I was trying out Total Recorder Pro (demo edition) on my TabletPC but it was causing my system to be unstable so I de-installed it before giving it a good try.

On paper it looks like a good tool for capturing all the audio streams on a Windows XP box into a single stream that is key for doing interviews, roundatables, etc. for podcasting.

I need to do some more digging ….

  • This is relatively old news, but John Stewart’s video on Crossfire is worth watching: http://www.ifilm.com/filmdetail?ifilmid=2652831&htv=12&htv=12&htv=12. Also here is a Google News search on the topic.

I totally agree with his opinion that mainstream media has dropped the ball in holding politicians in general accountable.

No matter if you are conservative or liberal or moderate, what he says resonates with people who take their political convictions seriously and are active in trying to effect change.
