I recently did a Windows Update on my custom built home PC and a new driver update was available:

SCM Microsystems Inc – Other Hardware – USBHS DFU Adapter SCM Microsystems Inc. usb software update released on February 18 2005.

I installed it but then the multi-function reader for the small media cards stopped working.  I rolled back to the original one from Microsoft when XP shipped, and the card readers started to work again.  The USB 2.0 interface seemed to work fine with the new driver but not having the card readers work was non-functional with digital cameras, etc.

  1. I’m having the same problem and it was driving me crazy! How did you roll back to the old driver? Thanks

  3. Likewise. A 512 Memorystick was not being recognized. A Windiws Update let me install the SCM 2/18/05 USBHS DFU Adapter update. Then The hardware was not recognized. Attempting to REMOVE the update failed, so no removable drives from the device are shown in Explorer, etc.

  5. Same problem!
To go back to the old driver: go to control panel->system and select USBHS DFU Adapter under usb controller. Select properties and go to Pilot. Then click go back to old version.
That’s all and it works for sure

  13. Anyone knows what files to delete under Windows 2000, which doesn’t have a roll back function? I really miss my card reader 😦

  14. Found it! Had to identify the correct (or rather wrong) oemXX.inf file, to make W2K revert to MS standard USB Mass Storage Device driver.

  17. I came across this almost by chance. Card reader hasn’t worked in ages and was really annoying me. Took your advice, rolled back the driver and it works again. Excellent. Thanks a lot
