Jersey Boys – Amazing Musical

My wife and got to usher for a recent performance of Jersey Boys at the La Jolla Playhouse @ UCSD.  It was absolutely amazing. 

This play is based on the life story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. The production, the acting, and of course the music was fabulous.

I didn’t realize how much of a Four Seasons fan I was until this play.  I managed to pick up a copy of The Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons Anthology (2-CDs) by Rhino Records and it is also very good.

UPDATE: We are pretty insane on this one.  Christy and I paid for tickets to sit in seats on 2nd of January 2005.  And then we bought standing room only tickets for the last night of the show which was on Sunday (1-16-2005). 

The amazing gift about this was when we ushered we got to sit in row B on Stage Left.  Our tickets for the 2nd were Row B Stage Right.  And our standing room only tickets turned into row E, right in the middle of the stage because people didn’t show up. So effectively we saw this production from every angle.

Christy was also able to get get two signatures: Bob Gaudio (one of the original Four Seasons) and R. Robert Spencer (who played Nick Massi).

    Dear Steve:
    My husband and I saw “Jersey Boys” four times together and I went back two more times by myself to see it. It was a fabulous show. Now I’m eagerly waiting to hear about its Broadway opening — no official announcement has been made, but I hear rumors of the fall of 2005. The cast is fabulous, especially David Norona as Frankie Valli. We too ushered (3 times), but you are so lucky to have seen the last performance. I ushered on the last Friday of the show. Des McAnuff was there with the real Frankie Valli. He sat in the back row and left during the part about his daughter. I was in high school when The Four Seasons came on the scene, so it brings back lots of memories for me. The last time I saw it (Friday), I talked briefly with David Norona and told him he makes me feel like a teenager again. I am usually never this excited about theatre, but this production really struck a cord and I think it is going to be huge in New York.

    I saw this play sadly only one time. Once I saw it, I thought everyone should see it. I called straight several times a day for one week trying to get tickets the last week, with no luck. I was so disappointed. I absolutely loved this play and would have loved to seen it again and again…
