Dave and Adam are so "giddy" of Madge Weinstein that it is becoming pretty event that this type of entertainment is something they think is worth promoting.

If she is going to be the podcast version of radio’s "big name poster child" Howard Stern then I want off the trip.  Ugh … I always like to remind people that freedom is not free, and ideas have consequences.

I guess I just have to get over it, and look to the positive.

At least I have my favorites like  Reel Reviews, Rip & Read, Jimmy Jett, Bitterest Pill, Godcast.org, and other good solid tech podcasts to move us forward into the mainstream without getting into the gutter.

UPDATE: According to Dave, Madge is/was a hoax.

  1. Yeah, I don’t see what the draw is to Madge Weinstein. If he/she wants to do a podcast, I don’t have a problem with that. But I don’t see why Adam is promoting that crap. I posted a similar comment on Adam’s site..

  4. Steve,
I agree that the leaders of the movement need be somewhat careful about promoting what they think will benefit the Podcasting movement.
I especially am concerned about podcasts that play RIAA music without permission. Brett Fausett’s Internet Pro has put a stake in the ground on legal use of RIAA music, and others have chosen to use GarageBand only. These are both correct and valid ways to play music. Those who choose to ignore the law risk bringing the law down on all of us.
I’m less concerned with Madge and her liberal use of bad words, but it is a pain to have the Daily Source Code on my car radio and have to turn it off when I have my family in the car. That’s not likely a legal issue, just one of taste. I find her podcast distateful, but legal. I find Adam’s endorsement counterproductive and wrong.

  7. Well, by now you’ve no doubt heard that Dave and Adam were the last two people on the planet that weren’t in on the joke. Found your site while Googling through the copious clues as to “Madge’s” identity.
I think Adam thought he’d just discovered the next Howard Stern. Funny thing is, he did, and now he’s all pissed off that Madge is just as much a creation as Howard Stern is.
Personally, I can’t stand the Madge schtick, so I’m happy that this particular chapter is closing.

  9. For what it is worth, I’d really like to have family rated podcasts.
The cussing and sex limits my time windows to be able to listen. I feel like i need to sneak into a closet to listen to podcasts.
Maybe the madgegate event will bring the X rated nature of podcasting to the table for discussion.

  11. Hey Steve, I just ran across this at Technorati…thanks for the GodCast.org plug. Although we’re still mostly religious, with the exception of “Behind the Scenes”, my goal is to start adding some other family-friendly content as soon as possible as GodCast.org continues to expand into a network format.
I actually toyed around with the idea of offering an edited, PG-rated version of the Daily Source Code but decided that my time was better spent elsewhere. What would be cool is if when someone finally comes up with a way to integrate OPML with an MP3 player you could add a content filter that automatically skips over material you’re not interested in. (Similar to what Clearplay offers for DVDs.)
Anyway, that’s it for now. Oh, and GodCast.org has a voicemail number now too, for your list: (815) 301-8600.
    Take care and God bless.
