I was lucky to be invited as a guest co-host with fellow FriendsInTech member Kevin Devin on his excellent In The Trenches podcast on Friday night.

From my perspective, the main topics include Microsoft Vista RC1 and Office 2007 (beta).

It was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed doing a ‘live’ one-pass podcast show format.

  • NetJets Annual Performance Award Goes To Cessna Aircraft

    September 6, 2006

    +

NetJets reportedly owns over 600 jets which it operates via NetJets Aviation. This high number of jets enables them to successfully allocate a jet to a member with only four hours notice.  Out of those 600 jets, more than 240 are reportedly Cessna Citation business
jets.  And while numbers of craft are important so is maintance availablility.

So, NetJets has started an awards program to highlight their partners who are helping them meet these demanding goals.  The first winner of a "NetJets Annual Performance Award" was Textron’s Cessna Aircraft for providing a 30% reduction in maintenace time per jet operated.  Cessna Aircraft highlights the use of applying Six Sigma lean improvement processes to achieving this reduction. Conrad and I got to go to yesterday’s evening San Diego Padres vs. Cincinnati Reds baseball game.  We had a great time, Padres won, and the San Diego Chicken was there making us all laugh at his skits.

There was a time during the dark days of the Padres when the San Diego Chicken was the only fun part of being at the ball park.

  • Eclipse Aviation Getting Very Close to FAA Certification On Eclipse 500 Aircraft

    September 2, 2006

Areo-News is reporting that Eclipse Aviation is expecting full FAA certification for their Eclipse 500 very-light-jet (VLJ) in the very near future.  The retail price of the Eclipse 500 is expected to be in the $1.5 million range and currently has a provisional certification.  According to the article the final FAA testing is focused on the avionics suite for the Eclipse 500 called the "Avio" that is supplied by Avidyne.

Another interesting tidbit from the article was that some ‘modern’ features like GPS navigation and
weather radar will be delivered at leas six months after FAA certification.  A retrofit service is already beeing planned by Eclipse to address this.

  • Child Safety Flier from FriendsInTech.com

George Starcher at Kevin Devin’s In The Trenches podcast created the following Internet Kids Safetly Flier (in PDF format) document for members and listeners of FriendsInTech.com to distribute:

    We
have noticed an increase in issues with children and the Internet.
Cyberbullying, various rammifications of social networks like My Space
etc. Several of our members also have young children who are using the
Internet more and more. So we have assembled a flier for parent
education. The flier contains various sites and information to help
parents educate themselves on the issues today’s children face online.
Friends in Tech is providing the compiled information on the flier as a
guide to resources on the Internet. Different sites may be more
appropriate to your children based on age and issues they face. We hope
at least some of them provide the information suitable to your family
needs. All logos, descriptions, links and information are copyright of
    their respective owners.
