It is a humourous look at the TV news and reporter business, with production and writing that is appealing for those looking for a quaility podcast program.

Joe Shareky @ NY Times tells his story of "Colliding With Death at 37,000 Feet, And Living".

Joe was on a free lance assignment for  Business Jet Traveler magazine, and in the Embraer Legacy 600 that had a collision with a Boeing 737 over Brazil were 155 people on the 737 died.

There was a total of 7 people on the 13-passenger $25 million jet flying at 37,000 feet when the event happened.  The jet was piloted by Joe Lepore & Jan Paladino, and included passengers from Embraer and the new owner of the jet from charter company ExcelAire.

  • Forbes on the Private Jet Boom

    October 2, 2006

Rich Karlgaard is the publisher of Forbes and in his column "Digital Rules" for Sept. 18, 2006 he gives another major endorsement to private jets in main piece entitled "Private Jet Boom."

    Some key numbers:

    • 40% increase in jet charters the week after the UK airline bomb plots
    • 35% increase in sales during the first half of 2006 for private planes
    • Over the last five years, "premium" business travelers on major airlines has decreased from 18% to 9%

The outlook in Rich’s mind is that air taxis equal a kind of salvation for the other 9% currently on the major airlines. And in addition, investment funds continue to flowing to innovative aircraft manufacturers:

    • $225 million to Eclipse
    • $93 million to Adam Aircraft

The end game though for Rich is how will his 250,000 a year miles flown on premium priced major airlines tickets translate into an air taxi model.  Two services are for sure going to be trying: POGO and DayJet are examples cited in the article.

Definitely a trend to watch …

  • Podcast Directory Discussion Audio and Thoughts

    October 2, 2006

My ‘Podcast Directory’ discussion audio at the Podango Unconference from Friday, 9/29/06 (4:15-4:45pm) at the Podcast and Portable Media Expo (PME) 2006 has been posted.

I had a pretty good time doing it once the crowd got use to the idea that I wanted to have a discussion vice me just speaking to the crowd on the topic.  And I think it went well overall – no one seemed to leave during the discussion and there was always a good crowd around the booth.  Hats off to the Podango folks for a great idea and for letting me participate.

I can’t say that we really solved anything during the 30 minutes of discussion, but people seemed to agree with the problem areas I presented. The solution probably requires that podcasters will need to become united on a short list of requirements or standards that can hold directories responsible for by either endorsement or ratings.

After the discussion I had a couple of great interactions.  A couple of sites that seem to be headed in the right direction are:

    • Podcast.com
    • OpenPodcastDirectory.org

NOTE: If you want a copy of the PDF of the presentation send me email – technewsradio@gmail.com.

American Thinker has a very interesting article by Herbert E. Meyer entitled "The Big Secret of that Leaked NIE (National Intelligence Estimate)".

If you are a Cold War history buff, the insight into how intelligence data was presented to President Ronald Reagan is pretty interesting.
