I am still trying to wrap my head around an article written by Jennifer Davies in the San Diego Union-Tribune called "Shelf Help: There’s a new tool in the individual improvement library – personalized books that are made to guide you to your goals in life."
This new $4000 service is delivered over four days by LifeBook (mylifebook.com) to help participants to outline their goals in such a way that a personal book can be built summing up all that is learned and experienced during the four days of sessions.
Right now the service is available in San Diego and Chicago with future plans to expand their ‘lounges’ to Orange County and Los Angeles.
The article did mention three other resources:
- Self Help Inc by Micki McGee,
- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey
(which is an excellent book that I highly recommend), and
- Marketdata Enterprises (that studies the self-help market).

Unfortunately, this review is coming after "In This Corner" written by Steven Drukman has finished playing at the San Diego’s The Old Globe theater. But it is such a very good play, that I believe it will produced in other locations, so if you get a chance to see it, you should.
The play was extremely well done, and production was in the Cassius Carter Centre Stage (aka theater-in-the-round) so it was very interactive.
The story is about boxers Joe Louis played by Dion Graham and Max Schmeling played by Rufus Collins. Both actor’s are extremely talented and give outstanding performances. The time frame for the story is from 1930 – 1970, and the boxing ring stage is supported by several great roles: Announcer, Trainer, Reporter, Nurse, and other Boxers.
As someone who knew very little details about Joe Lewis and Max Schmeling it was great to learn more via the engaging theater experience.
So, if this show comes to your area or back to San Diego, I highly recommend you attend.

I just read a Walt Mossberg’s Mailbox article about how to move from a Windows PC to an Apple Macintosh when you have a great deal of information in Microsoft Outlook, and it reminded me of the work around I came up with recently.
Christy recently migrated from a Windows XP based laptop to an iBook G4 with Leopard. And she was using Microsoft Outlook on the PC for email and contacts.
I moved over all her email using Google GMAIL’s IMAP service. This was pretty easy, because once I had the IMAP account configured on Outlook I could just drag and drop the emails she wanted on her Mac. Then I fired up the Mail client in Leopard and configured it for the same IMAP account, and I was done.
I figured I could use the export functions in Microsoft Outlook to get me a contacts file that would import into Apple’s Address Book, but every file I tried ended up hanging when I tried to import on the Macintosh.
So, I came up with this work around.
I went into Microsoft Outlook’s contact view on the PC, and did a select all. And then did a right mouse click to Send vCard of all the selected contacts. This created a new email message with all her contacts vCards. I then selected all the ‘attachments’ and saved them to a folder locally on the PC. I then copied the folder to a USB flash drive and moved them to her Macintosh. She then clicked through that folder and added the people she wanted into the Leopard Address Book. Pretty easy and it also cut down on some clutter in her new Address Book because she picked just the vCards to import that she wanted.
Walt suggested a $10 tool from Little Machines’ O2M (Outlook To Mac). I haven’t used the tool but from what I read on their site it appears to be a possible alternative solution.

If you are interested in manually downloading older Jersey Boys
Podcasts there is a file naming convention that you can use to get them
downloaded using your standard web browser. The individual MP3 audio files are all numbered in sequential order.
For instance the first podcast is "JBP-001-JerseyBoysPodcast.mp3". The
second podcast is "JBP-002-JerseyBoysPodcast.mp3". All you need to do
is increment 001 to 002 to 003 to whatever number you want up to the
most current podcast without getting an error. You do this to the URL in the browser, so the complete link for the 1st podcast is:
libsyn.com/media/am/JBP-001-JerseyBoysPodcast.mp3
The second podcast is:
libsyn.com/media/am/JBP-002-JerseyBoysPodcast.mp3
