I did manage to remember one item (I think it was from Slashdot Review) that I thought I should check out from my podcast listening run: Podcast Alley.

It is a new directory with a ranking system.  Check it out.  If you have time please rate Tech Rag Tear Outs (TRTO).

  • Serious Audio Capture Tool Needed

    November 17, 2004

    +

    +

    +

One of my more recent frustrations is my inability to capture audio content when I hear it for reference, playback, or commentary.  I really want a universal audio snibbet capture tool.

I listen to stuff on my MP3 Player (Muvo), my iPAQ, and my TabletPC.  None of the listening tools allow me to easily capture a segment I am listening to in the tool I am using to listen.

I good example of this problem was this morning’s run – Slashdot Review, Future Tense, and eDave’s Security Show – all had tidbits that I’d love to capture to look up information later or to put into a future podcast.

The current answer is to get back to my PC – play the segments again and capture via Audacity.  But that is time consuming and frankly in good Getting Things Done (Getting) fashion I just end up renegotiating the priority/pay-off-factor, and just move on to better things to spend my time on.

There is an interesting thread on ipodder-dev via Yahoo.com that is discussing metadata options.  ID3 is one option.  Also, Engadget added pictures to a recent podcast.  So, this is moving fast and could enable better user experience.

Sorry for the lack of recent blog posts, and I missed my planned Thursday & Saturday podcasts.  I have been busy with family stuff and with trying to get my new PC (built-from-scratch) up and running.

  • Good Podcasting via Windows How To

    November 11, 2004

    +

    +

    +

Jake Ludington’s MediaBlab has a good set of how to’s entitled Podcasting with Windows (as a consumer of podcasts not as a producer/content provider).

For a good source for how to do a podcast on Windows is actually in a lot of the recent Jimmy Jett podcasts.

I am recording audio on my XP system using a Plantronics USB DSP-100 headset and then mixing the content together not in real time using the opensource Audacity tool (Win/Mac/Linux).

Doing it real time or "live" like Adam Curry might be a long term goal for improving my skills but at this time I don’t think it works well into my production options.

Washington Post is reporting the "election was stollen" rumors that I have been seeing on some of the open source intelligence list and various left leaning blogs.  If I had to guess it took about a week to move from emails/blogs to mainstream press.

  • Bloggercon – No Plugging Your Own Stuff

    November 10, 2004

    +

Near the end of the IT Conversations MP3 of the podcasting session of Bloggercon there is a conflict on "no plugging your own stuff" rule when I think it is Dave Sifry at Technorati trying to point people to this URL: http://www.technorati.com/live/topmp3s.html.

It seems like Dave wasn’t trying to say spend $49 on my all in wonder tool, and your life will be better.  The above URL is just another flavor of: http://audio.weblogs.com/ which it seems to me would be an OK topic to talk about.

More info on this topic via Dave Winer on Bloggercon and The "Making Money" Session.

Granted I wasn’t there … so it may be a complete misunderstanding of events that unfolded, and then have been transcribed incorrectly.
