I think I caught a live video of this via Blogdigger.com.  I mentioned it to Dan Klass at the TheBitterestPill podcast.  He found this: www.onthepullmanagement.com/naivemelody.mp3 which is much better than the half-video I had.

I just spent the last 2 hours trying to get 802.11g running smoothly home (upgrading from 802.11b for a variety of reasons) between a Netgear FWAG114 (not for sale anymore?!?), my work’s HP TC1100, and my custom PC’s Linksys DWL-G510.

I was trying to get all three devices to do WPA-PSK with TKIP, but I could only get one of the client devices to connect at any one point.  Having them both up and running just wouldn’t seem to work.

While not conclusive, this forum post seems to lead me to believe that there might be some interoperability issues with WPA.

So for now, I had to go back to Shared WEP with no broadcast SSID. Definitely not ideal but better than wide open.

  • Windows XP Media Edition 2005

Back in Jun04, I was up at Microsoft for work participating in a security conference.  One of the tours that was setup for us, was of the Innovation Center and while waiting for the tour to start, I spent about 15 minutes with hands-on a Windows XP Media Edition 2003 system.

I was impressed mostly with the ease-of-use of the GUI, and I think it could actually have some play in the "senior decision maker" space of enterprise computing (probably not in their model though).

Anyway … it seems like the 2005 version is gaining some "Big-Mo" (aka momentum):

    • Costco’s most recent members magazine had a write-up about it.
    • Google Search on "media center edition 2005"
    • Hardware Analysis just posted "Getting started with Media Center Edition 2005"
    • You can now buy the software via OEMs for build-it yourself folks
    • Available via MSDN and TechNet subscriptions

Update#2: There is a fix … read Using Firefox with TabletPC.

    Back in Nov04 I wrote:

I think that FireFox is not TabletPC aware… I am not getting the standard popup window but had to use the toolbar option (input panel).

Update#1: Here is a picture of the icon you get in IE and a picture of a tech box in FireFox without the Tablet PC Input Panel.

I guess technically (via wikipedia) HughHewitt.com is a blog.

But I find that a blog that does not offer a subscription option (RSS, ATOM, etc) so I can read in my aggregator (Newsgator) isn’t going to get read by me on any regular basis.

Tom Peter’s announced a weblog without subscriptions initially, but he now has them.  Hugh should do the same.

BTW … Hugh has a new book out that I have not read called "Blog." Hugh also needs a podcast because I find it hard to listen to him when he is broadcasting real-time.

    The Meaning of R.S.V.P:

The term R.S.V.P. comes from the French expression "répondez s’il vous
    plaît", meaning "please respond".

If R.S.V.P. is written on an
invitation it means the invited guest must tell the host whether or not they plan to attend the party.

It does not mean to respond only if you’re coming, and it does not mean respond only if you’re notcoming
(the expression "regrets only" is reserved for that instance).

    It means
the host needs a definite head count for the planned event, and needs
it by the date specified on the invitation.

I think that my wife and I are at times the only one practicing this … argh …
