At the last Orange County Podcast User Group meeting, I recorded a short sample using Craig Patchett @ Godcast’s:

    • iRiver iFP-795 (mp3 player), and
    • Sony ECM-MS907 (microphone).

Here it is at 256-kbps bit rate (standard recording level), and the only editing I did was taking off the dead air at the beginning and the end of the original file sent to me by Craig: iRiver-Recording-Shorter.mp3 (525.8K).

There is a lot of background noise because of the room we were in, but otherwise I think the audio quality is pretty good for doing a mobile show, face-to-face interviews, and sound seeing tours.

I continue to research small form factor PC-based solutions.  There is a a company out of Europe called Digital-Logic with a MICROSPACE-PC family with a host of options with pricing starting at $1601 (discounts available for large orders), and go up to $4386 (bundled with 19" TFT monitor).

The distributor in the United States is Advanced Digital Logic based in San Diego, CA. [Which I have no affiliation.]

There is a digital (PDF) free technology magazine being published out of the United Kingdom (UK) called Home Computer Magazine.  The current issue is #04 and has contents on:

    • "Spring clean your PC for peak performance with Nick Peers"
    • "14 pages of tutorials, including Windows XP, overclocking, RSS readers, web building and web promotion software"
    • "11 pages of the latest PC products reviewed including our first nVidia SLI based PC and best ever laptop"

This is just a quick reference blurb in case people are interested in

    • "The Blogosphere" by Andrew Rosenbloom
    • "The Structure and Evolution of Blogspace" by Ravi Kumar, Jasmine Novak, Prabhakar Raghavan, and Andrew Tomkins
    • "Why We Blog" by Bonnie Nardi, Diane Schiano, Michelle Gumbrecht, and Luke Swartz

  • More XForms Resources

The previous Tech Tidbits Daily that introduced the topic of XForms opened up my eyes to a bunch of new resources over the last 24 hours.

First off, the Mozilla Foundation has a beta release of a XForms plug-in for Firefox.

Second, Infoworld published on 02.28.05 has a detailed Test Center review by

Rick Grehan of three solutions: DENG 1.0 [8 out of 10]; Orbeon Presentation Server 2.7 and Orbeon Studio 1.2 [7.8 out of 10]; and PureEdge 8x Suite 2.6 [7.9 out of 10].

And they also had a great list of resources to learn more about XForms:

    • W3C
    • W3 School XForms Tutorial
    • "Next Generation E-Forms" by Jon Udell
    • Chiba
    • XForms Computes [from Phil Windley]

This is your Tech Tidbits Daily for Wednesday, Mar. 2nd 2005. Did you know that you can subscribe to eBay search services via RSS feeds?  You can’t do it directly (maybe that will be a future feature), but Cori @ kinrowan.blogspot.com notes that there are a couple of 3rd party services that can help: RSS Auction and Power To The Buyer. So, the next time that Apple Newton MessagePad 110 with a clear plastic shell goes on sale, you will know about it. For
more information about the links mentioned in this podcast, or for more
details on how to subscribe to this podcast check out www.technewsradio.com. Have a great
    day.

IT Conversations has two recently posted sessions that were very good:

    • John
Batelle speaks with Marc Andreessen, Chairman & Co-Founder, Opsware, and
Dan Rosensweig, COO, Yahoo. What did they learn the first time, and what’s
different in a Web 2.0 world? [Web 2.0 Conference audio on IT Conversations]
    • Dr.
Moira Gunn speaks with the former COO of Microsoft, Robert Herbold. He’s a member of the President’s Council of
Advisors on Science and Technology. They discuss some surprising facts about
technology education in the United States. [Tech Nation podcast on IT

This is your Tech Tidbits Daily for Tuesday, Mar. 1st, 2005.  Did you know that you could do XForms in OpenOffice?  The underlining forms authoring and collection technology has been possible, but there is a new beta of OpenOffice that enables the creation of XForms directly in OpenDocument format using a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) that can also work with StarOffice. Still interested? Them check out XML.com for a preview article that examines ten XForm tools including solutions from Novell and Oracle. For

Cerulean Studios has released version 3.1 Build 121 of Trillian Basic – the multi-vendor chat client that supports MSN, AOL, Yahoo, and IRC.

There is a "neat" neat feature that while chatting if a ‘word’ comes up that is included in Wikipedia, then there is a link to that page within Wikipedia.
