Update on my Tablet PC woes … 99% sure the drive just failed. HP is shipping me out a new one ASAP. Bummer I gotta build the system again from scratch though.
Can you do me a favor? Can you check out this item at www.technewsradio.com and click on the link (or this one) to provide some comments on Podcast Alley for the podcasts? A vote would be appreciated also. I know a lot of podcasts are asking for this, and I can only imagine it is a pain. So, this is the one and only time I am going to ask.
I know there is a growing number of listeners and I think that having public comments over at Podcast Alley will help people to make a decision to tune in if they are looking for a technology related podcast like the one’s I am doing.
Thanks!

My primary computer – HP TC1100 Tablet PC – went blue screen then "OS not found" last night. So, after doing some troubleshooting with Kevin Devin via SKYPE I decided to move to a backup test laptop I had. But that is going to take some configuration time to get operational. The really good news is I did a 99% data backup yesterday during lunch (the 1% is going to be annoying – Doppler OPML, Firefox Bookmarks, stuff on my Desktop, 18 hours of email/RSS feeds, …)
I haven’t had any problems with the TC1100 so it is pretty strange. I’ll keep folks posted as I can. Hopefully I can recover the disk but my first couple of attempts didn’t turn up anything positive.
To make matters slightly worse, my schedule is really busy. I have an off-site for "real" work all day today, tomorrow the family leaves for a short 4 day trip to Yosemite, I am back in the office for one day on Monday, and then I plan to attend O’Reilly’s Emerging Technology Conference in town Tue-Thurs. Whew …
I think posting will be sporatic at best …

This is your Tech Tidbits Daily for Tuesday, Mar. 8th 2005. Today’s news comes from Apple. If you are a system administrator who either has their users or personally uses Apple Remote Desktop 2, then you’ll want to check out an online resource article entitled "Providing Application Access to SQL Data in Apple Remote Desktop 2". I found this a particularly well organized, written, and detailed article on the topic of collecting remote access metrics, especially when compared to the lack of similar data and capability when using Windows XP Professional’s Remote Desktop Connection. Maybe another reason to consider switching? For

Dave Slusher over at the Evil Genius Chronicles talked about a topic that is near and dear to some of my own thinking on why I am podcasting and blogging: "provide a service to my audience."
It is in his show "EGC Clambake Episode for March 3, 2005" were he talks about the value of the connection to his readers vice just the shear numbers found in server logs and rankings on sites.
What he sees looking at his audience via personal emails and comments on his weblog is much more important to him than numbers, and how it is very hard to categorize these intangible but very relevant information.
He points out in a great example the "influence" factor of the IT Conversation’s Gillmor Gang show via narrowcast to the "right, perfect, and best case" audience.
Great deep thinking work Dave … I have many of the very same feelings for my own readers and listeners.
Here is the actual part of his podcast (just under 6 minutes long) that I grabbed via Audacity … Download egc-snippet-from-20050303.mp3 (2741.4K) .
