  • Cisco Router Flaw [Summary]

    August 3, 2005

    +

    +

    +

    +

    +

    +

This is a very interesting event that will probably have some impact on future computer network vulnerability research and publications:

    • Wired interview with the researcher
    • Lot’s of legal threats
    • Video of Cisco reps ripping out the presentation from DEFCON docs
    • News coverage of the posting of the info online
    • Make Magazine review of recent news
    • John Murrell has some fine  analysis [earlier post]
    • BoingBoing coverage is good also [earlier coverage]

I think that IT pros should really seriously consider whether they want to do business with ISS and Cisco (this is probably a lot harder to do than ISS) if this is going to be standard behavior.

  • Tecra M4 Just Not Going To Work With Verizon EVDO?

    August 2, 2005

    +

    +

    +

    +

    +

    +

My previous posts on the blog and at TabletPCBuzz.com on my woes with Verizon EVDO PC Card PC 5220 have caught the attention of another Tecra M4 user Oca Hoeflein who has had the same problems with the following other EVDO cards offered by Verizon:

    • Kycera KPC6500
    • Novatel 620

Not sure where that leaves me if those two units don’t work either or what my next step should be.

  • “Apple Revs Up iBooks, Doubles Mac mini RAM”

    August 2, 2005

    +

    +

    +

    +

    +

    +

    Geoff Duncan @tidbits.com:

Apple Computer last week took the wraps off minor updates to two affordable segments of its Macintosh product lines, speeding up and improving the iBook portable line while (finally!) doubling the default RAM installed in Mac minis.

Apple’s also cranked up the default RAM installation across its Mac mini product line, with 512 MB of RAM now being the new standard with no change in Mac mini pricing, which still starts at $500. The top two Mac mini models – at $600 and $700 – now include AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth wireless connectivity by default, and the most-tricked-out Mac mini offers a slot-loading SuperDrive. Mac minis also ship with Tiger and iLife ’05 pre-installed.

Time to get a Mac again? Nearly 45% of all the folks listening to www.technewsradio.com are coming from a Mac podcatching client.  I feel a little distant from them.
