Today’s news is a new web service that should allow developers to integrate podcast search into their applications. This service (demo) allows remote keyword search of the Digital Podcast directory by relevance, listener subscription rate, ratings, visits, total user votes and date added.
The service returns results in OPML and RSS formats (documentation).
The primary developer Alex at DigitalPodcast.com has also released some application examples via the sdk to sourceforge.

Today’s podcast is all about the current threads on RSS from three sources: eWeek, Government Computer News, and Information Week. The first two items are short blurbs, but the Information Week article is really an in-depth state of the marketplace article.
The first is eWeek (August 1, 2005) that notes that Newsgator’s web-based FeedStation is now supporting podcasts and video blog automatic downloads to portable media devices.
The second is from Government Computer News for August 8th, 2005 that notes that NuParadigm has released a Windows .NET framework savvy RSS Screensaver that is free for non-commercial use. You can also get a list of current U.S. government feeds via The FirstGov search site.
Lastly, the third article is by Thomas Claburn @ Information Week who examined "Order From Chaos Via RSS: Business are taking a cue from bloggers with new way of distributing information. The appeal. It’s really simple." The article is in the August 1, 2005 edition, and it starts on page 41 and goes to page 45.
The article looks at the business end of RSS and highlights some companies like Disney, ING Group, Integrated Justice Information Systems Institute, New College, and Amazon.com that are using solutions from companies like Newsgator, KnowHow, Bradbury Software, NetNewsWire, Bloglines, Feedbeep, and Yahoo Mobile.
Also key to this article from a business perspective is that there are some marketing stats from research groups like Forrester Research, Gartner, and Pew Internet & American Life Project included in for reference.
The article also notes that browsers from Apple, Mozilla, and Microsoft are also supporting RSS either currently or in the near future.
For additional information check out "Getting Started with RSS".
