Enterprise Magazine is reporting that VMware (owned by EMC) has announced plans to support an open virtualization standards process. [entmag] This article is written by Stuart Johnson .

This initiative is called VMware Community Source that will offer up to their partners access to the source code and interface for VMWare Professional (on the Windows or Linux desktop) and VMware ESX (for servers).  Code can be checked out and then improved or modified for a specific purpose and then offered back into the community for possible inclusion into future VMWare releases.

So … who are the first round of partners?  They include: AMD, BEA Systems, BMC Software, Broadcom, Cisco, Computer Associates, Dell, Emulex, HP, IBM, Intel, Mellanox, Novell, QLogic and Red Hat.

The next Tech Rag Tear Outs is going to have a focus on virtual machines.  I have collected eight (8) articles from Information Week, Network Computing, Network World, eWeek, and Computer Reseller News.  This edition will be released on Friday, Nov. 11 or early on Saturday the 12th of Nov.

[NOTE: Also, the audio quality on this podcast is a little spotty.  There is some sort of hiss or interferance being picked-up in the background of the audio recording of the main content.  I am trying to fix it.]
