PC Magazine for 23Aug05 examines PCs for Back To School.  They looked at both laptops and desktops.

On the notebook side the Gateway M250XL gets a PC Magazine Editors’ Choice award up against the Avertedc AV4265-EH1, Dell Inspiron 700m, the HP Compaq Presario V2000, and the Toshiba M45-S165. 

On the desktop side the Dell Dimension 5100 was the PC Magazine Editors’ Choice award winner.  The other units they looked at included: eMachines T6520, Gateway 5310S, HP Compaq Presario SR1550NX, and the HP Pavilion a1120n.  The T6520 & the a1120n both used Athlon 64 3400+ 2.4-GHz processors.

The also liked Apple eMac 1.42-GHz Superdrive.
